Just before going to an event, a customer gave me some Blue Bottle coffee beans.
However, he said he bought it in Los Angeles, not San Francisco.
Now…
Saturday night at Utsubo Parkcocoo cafeI was invited by Mr.Kamiyoga Coffee Club x cocoo cafe presents “Cupping of Bay Area '15 Early Summer in Osaka”(Facebook event page) I attended this event.
We cupped coffee beans from a variety of third wave coffee shops in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Ritual, Four Barrel, and Sightglass, some of which even the owner has heard of, as well as lesser-known shops.
Cupping is simply tasting.

I think it will be easier to understand if you take a look around.
More than 30 people participated, including coffee shop owners, food service workers other than coffee shops, and the general public.
I got dizzy amongst a bunch of strangers, sneaking around trying not to let anyone know I was in a coffee shop...
When we get beans that cost over 100 yen per 2000g, or beans that have been roasted and brought in by other shops and won awards at coffee competitions, we are surprised and wonder, "Can coffee really taste like this?"
This is a coffee I don't plan on selling in my shop, so it was a very good experience.
During my conversation with the organizer, I heard the words, "These are Grand Cru class coffee beans."
The term Grand Cru (premier vineyard) originally comes from the world of wine.
When I first got into wine, I would occasionally drink classified wines.
For now, I'm just happy to be able to drink it...
Although I usually only drink cheap wines, when I occasionally try a good one, I can feel the complexity and depth of the flavor, and it feels like my world of wine has suddenly expanded (my horizons have suddenly opened up), and I think the same is true for coffee.
We often hear that improvement in something follows an S-curve.
It's like a steep upward curve, like suddenly learning to ride a bicycle.
If you continue in the same environment, it's difficult to make any dramatic changes, but I think being exposed to high-quality coffee could be one key to rapid improvement.
I felt that again.
