When I imagine lush, green mountains, the phrase "No matter how far I go, the mountains are always green" always comes to mind.
The owner of the shop likes this haiku by Taneda Santoka. However, he learned it not from Japanese class, but from a manga.
Now then…
It's about a new blend.
We have run out of the beans we used for our spring blend, so we have been taking a break from seasonal blends since last week.
It was just the time to switch, so we started selling the new blend after the holiday.
Seasonal Blend Summer "Natsuyamaji"
A medium roast blend inspired by lush mountain paths. It has a refreshing acidity and a light taste that goes down easy even in the hot summer months.
Roast level: Medium roast
Green bean country of origin: Costa Rica, Bolivia
Last year's summer blend was inspired by a seaside sunset, but this year, with the creation of Mountain Day, I thought the theme would be "mountains."
This blend was created while imagining the scenery of walking along a lush mountain path dripping with the freshness of the rainy season.
The owner prefers the mountains to the sea because walking along tree-lined paths is relaxing and the sunburn is less severe.
The cafe serves both hot and iced coffee.
Trivia: August 8th is "Mountain Day"
The "Act Partially Amending the Law Concerning National Holidays (Act No. 26 of 43)" came into effect on January 2016, 1, and August 1 was designated as a new "national holiday," called "Mountain Day." This is the first new national holiday in 8 years since "Marine Day" was established in 11.
Mountain Day is apparently a day to "have the opportunity to become familiar with mountains and to be grateful for the blessings they provide," but there is no clear origin such as a special mountain-related event.
…There doesn’t seem to be any clear origin.
It seems to be aimed at economic benefits.
This is the first Mountain Day of the year, and as Usagi and I are starting our Obon holiday from this day onwards, the shop will be closed.
I'm going back to my wife's hometown, Matsumoto, and I hope to enjoy the Shinshu mountain range.
Thank you.
