Doing what I can to help someone

The other day, I was listening to Kosaka Yuji's podcast in a rental car while going out to do some groceries.
The theme was "What is work?""The essence of work is to do what you can to help someone."He said,

When I heard that, I thought, "That's absolutely true." This is a bit off topic from the podcast, but...

Before opening the cafe, Usaboku and his wife worked at a welfare facility with people with disabilities. They provided support for a long period of time, mainly to people with severe intellectual disabilities. Most of them had difficulty understanding the meaning of work and money, so they would communicate with them in ways that helped them understand the importance of their salary, but more importantly, what they valued on a daily basis was simply saying "thank you."
It was an interaction that allowed me to truly realize that the actions of that person make the people around them happy.

In a world where economic and social roles are difficult to appreciate and understand, when we think about the meaning of work and the significance of one's existence, I feel it really boils down to the simple idea of "doing something for the people around you." And compensation isn't just about money.
There's a saying that the meaning of work is "to make things easier for the people around you," but I think the true essence of work is to help those around you, even if you don't receive payment for your labor. To take it to the extreme, there are cases where your mere presence can make those around you happy. Even for people with severe disabilities, I feel like there are many things they can do and many possibilities, not just none.

Listening to the podcast reminded me of that old job.

Our own work is based on our previous work experiences. "To help someone by doing what we can." It would be even better if we were paid for it... Introducing the local area is also a job, but it's not really something we do with the intention of receiving payment...

As I continue working at the coffee shop, the things I can do are gradually expanding, so I hope to continue thinking about new things and taking on new challenges.

Well, what I'm trying to say is that the shop owner of the store that will be selling facility products, which I introduced at the beginning and will be opening on the 25th, is helping out without any compensation... so please be sure to stop by after it opens.
