Mini photo exhibition by master Uwaguchi Takakiyo at Gelato shop Ooji

From June 6th (Sun) to 10th (Sun), "Gelato Shop Ooji" across from Abeno Oji Shrine will be exhibiting photos of rabbits and me, the owner, for their first anniversary. I've been working on conservation for the past three years (maybe), but I don't want to show photos of rabbit traps, because they're too graphic...

I went to visit Mineko, a calico cat we rescued behind Usagi and Me store.

We rescued, neutered, and released stray cats behind our shop. They used to hang out together as a group of about five, but recently we haven't seen them at all. It seems like they've moved their territory somewhere, or they've suddenly been spirited away. Well...on our last day off, we rescued Mineko, the calico cat we rescued behind our shop...

Usagi and Me, Recent Stray Cats October 2016

After closing time, I hear a stray cat meowing sweetly from the apartment building, begging for food. It's a stray cat that gets food on the first floor of the apartment building behind ours. It seems to recognize the space under our air conditioner unit as its toilet, the water pipes as its scratching post, and the tin roof as its living room, causing quite a stir behind our store... As expected...

Although it takes a lot of work, I think the good thing about living in a tenement house is that you can get a real sense of life there.

A customer who has been coming to our restaurant since shortly after we opened said, while looking at the blackboard above the counter, "It's been five years since I heard you were planning to write the menu on the blackboard. It's a brand new place..." I guess there aren't many customers who recognize this as a blackboard anymore...

The latest stray cat situation with my rabbit, and the opening of Genki Animal Hospital, a veterinary clinic that supports sterilization surgery [Abeno, Showa-cho]

This stray cat was featured on Twitter and Facebook. After successfully undergoing neutering surgery, he returned to the store in a furious state, so we released him behind the store. The cat volunteer who had looked after him said, "He'll get caught in the cage again. Males are stupid."

A calico cat's marriage proposal falls through, so foster parents are being sought again...

Weekend business was quite busy, probably due to spring break. The calico cat who was staying with us seemed quite exhausted, and was snoring loudly after work. I think it must have been a tough environment. Now... the story of this calico cat. The calico cat and the potential foster parents...

Stories about cats and coffee, trivia, etc.

Rainy Monday. I'm taking it easy, so I'm handpicking while watching the calico cat who's staying with me. Whenever I have time, he's always by my side, but he's really angry at me. Anyway... the cat is in a coffee shop, so this time I'll talk about cats and coffee. Do cats dislike the smell of coffee...? ...

The continuation of the story of the rabbit, me and the calico cat

We have a cage for calico cats in the back of the store. People who haven't read our blog often ask us, "Do you have a rabbit?" Well, that's the natural response. When asked, we reply, "Yes, but its ears aren't long and it meows..."
